Description
Entoquol Tablet is generally prescribed for the treatment of intestinal amoebiasis, liver abscess, and other protozoal infections caused by Entamoeba histolytica. It contains Diloxanide furoate, an anti-amoebic agent that acts directly on the parasite present in the intestine. Doctors usually recommend it as a luminal amoebicide to eliminate residual cysts after treatment of acute amoebic dysentery, thereby preventing recurrence. It is often given along with tissue-acting agents such as metronidazole for complete eradication of the infection.
Uses of Entoquol Tablet:
Treatment of chronic intestinal amoebiasis
Elimination of amoebic cysts from the intestine
Supportive therapy in amoebic liver abscess (with other drugs)
Prevention of relapse after acute amoebic dysentery
Possible Side Effects (usually mild and temporary):
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps
Flatulence, bloating, diarrhea
Headache, dizziness
Itching or skin rash (rare)
In rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions
This medicine should be taken as per doctorβs advice, usually after meals, and avoided in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless prescribed. Long-term or unsupervised use is not recommended.
