Description
Rexigut 550 Tablet contains Rifaximin, a broad-spectrum, non-absorbable antibiotic used mainly to treat gastrointestinal infections. It works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria in the intestines without significantly affecting the beneficial gut flora.
Uses:
Treatment of hepatic encephalopathy by reducing ammonia-producing gut bacteria in patients with chronic liver disease
Management of travellerβs diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli) in adults
Treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) to reduce bloating, abdominal pain, and loose stools
Sometimes used in recurrent or chronic intestinal bacterial overgrowth as advised by a doctor
Side Effects:
Rexigut 550 is generally well tolerated because it is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream. However, some people may experience:
Common: Nausea, flatulence, stomach pain, constipation, headache, fatigue
Less common: Vomiting, fever, dizziness, muscle cramps, swelling in hands or feet
Rare but serious: Severe allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue), severe diarrhea with blood or mucus (possible Clostridium difficile infection)
Precautions:
Avoid use if allergic to rifaximin or other rifamycin antibiotics. Use only as prescribed and complete the full course. Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, severe diarrhea, or persistent symptoms after treatment.
