Description

ALKAYES Syrup 100ml is a laxative containing Lactulose as its active ingredient. It is primarily used to treat constipation by softening stools and making bowel movements easier. It works by drawing water into the colon, increasing stool volume, and stimulating bowel movement. ALKAYES is also used in the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy, a liver-related condition where toxins like ammonia build up in the blood and affect brain function.

Uses:

• Relief from chronic or occasional constipation

• Management of bowel irregularity in elderly patients

• Treatment and prevention of hepatic encephalopathy by reducing ammonia absorption

• Safe for use in children, adults, and elderly under medical supervision

Side Effects:

• Common: Flatulence (gas), abdominal cramps, bloating, mild diarrhea

• Less Common: Nausea, vomiting, excessive belching

• With prolonged or high doses: Electrolyte imbalance (low potassium, high sodium)

• Rare but serious: Severe diarrhea, dehydration, or worsening abdominal pain

It should be taken exactly as prescribed, with or without food, and plenty of fluids. Overuse may lead to dependency for bowel movements. Patients with galactosemia or bowel obstruction should avoid it unless advised by a doctor.
