Description
Amoxyclav 375 is a combination antibiotic containing Amoxicillin (250 mg) and Clavulanic acid (125 mg). It is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections by stopping the growth of bacteria. This tablet is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections (such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis), urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections, and ear infections.
Amoxicillin kills bacteria, while clavulanic acid prevents bacteria from becoming resistant to the antibiotic. This makes the combination more effective than amoxicillin alone. It is generally taken with food to reduce stomach upset and improve absorption. The dosage and duration are based on the patient’s condition and response to treatment.
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and skin rash. Taking it with meals can reduce gastrointestinal symptoms. In some cases, it may cause allergic reactions such as itching, swelling, or breathing difficultyβespecially in individuals allergic to penicillin. Long-term or repeated use may lead to oral or vaginal thrush (fungal infections).
