Description
Drex Junior Syrup is an antihistamine medication containing Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride, mainly prescribed for children to relieve allergic symptoms. It works by blocking histamine, a natural substance in the body responsible for allergy symptoms.
Uses:
Relief from seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes)
Treatment of skin allergies like urticaria (hives) and itching
Management of allergic reactions to insect bites or foods
Helps reduce symptoms of eczema-related itching
Sometimes prescribed for anxiety or restlessness in children under medical supervision
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, mild headache
Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, constipation
Neurological: Confusion or irritability (more likely in young children)
Rare but serious: Difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, severe dizziness)
Parents should give the syrup exactly as prescribed, usually after food to minimize stomach upset. Overdose can cause excessive drowsiness, seizures, or heart rhythm problems, so measuring with a proper dosing spoon is important. Caution is advised if the child has asthma, heart problems, or liver/kidney issues. Prolonged use should be avoided unless recommended by a doctor.
