Description
Febutax 80 Tablet contains Febuxostat (80 mg), a medicine used for the long-term management of chronic gout and conditions associated with high uric acid levels in the blood (hyperuricemia). It works by inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which is responsible for the production of uric acid. By lowering uric acid levels, it helps prevent gout attacks and related complications.
Uses:
Treatment of chronic gout, reducing the frequency and severity of painful gout flares
Management of hyperuricemia in patients with a history of gout
Prevention of uric acid crystal deposition in joints and tissues
May be prescribed to reduce uric acid levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy, where uric acid buildup is a concern (as per doctorβs advice)
Side Effects:
Febutax 80 is generally effective, but some patients may experience:
Common: Nausea, headache, diarrhea, joint pain, rash
Occasional: Dizziness, abnormal liver function test results, itching
Rare but serious: Severe allergic reactions, chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden numbness/weakness (possible cardiovascular events), severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Precautions:
Regular monitoring of serum uric acid and liver function is recommended during treatment. Not suitable for patients with severe heart disease or those on azathioprine/mercaptopurine. Take only under medical supervision.
