Description
Galpride M1 Tablet is an oral anti-diabetic medicine that combines Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) and Metformin (a biguanide). It is prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, especially when diet, exercise, and single-drug therapy are insufficient to control blood sugar.
Glimepiride works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin, thereby lowering blood glucose.
Metformin decreases glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, helping the body utilize glucose effectively.
Uses:
Control of high blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes
Prevention of diabetes-related complications like kidney damage, nerve problems, eye issues, and heart disease
Support for weight management in diabetic patients by improving glucose utilization
Can be used as part of a combination therapy along with diet and lifestyle changes
Side Effects:
Galpride M1 may cause:
Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, metallic taste, weakness
Occasional: Dizziness, headache, mild weight gain, bloating
Serious but rare: Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with symptoms like sweating, tremors, hunger, confusion; lactic acidosis (linked to metformin, very rare); allergic reactions such as rash or swelling
Precautions:
Take with meals to minimize stomach upset. Avoid alcohol. Not recommended for patients with severe kidney, liver, or heart disease. Regular monitoring of blood sugar and periodic check-ups are essential.
