Pantosec 40 (Cipla) – Uses and Side Effects

Pantosec 40, manufactured by Cipla, contains pantoprazole 40 mg, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce stomach acid production. It is commonly prescribed for conditions like acid reflux (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and for preventing ulcers caused by long-term NSAID use. It helps relieve symptoms like heartburn, acidity, indigestion, and chest discomfort by healing the esophagus and stomach lining.

Pantosec 40 is typically taken once daily, preferably 30 to 60 minutes before meals. It should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. Duration of use depends on the condition being treated and doctor’s advice.

Common side effects include headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, or gas. Some people may also experience dizziness or joint pain.

Serious but rare side effects may include allergic reactions, vitamin B12 deficiency (with long-term use), low magnesium levels, and osteoporosis-related fractures. Prolonged use should be monitored by a doctor.
