Description
Picolix Syrup is a laxative medicine containing Sodium Picosulfate, which is used to treat constipation. It works by stimulating the bowel muscles (peristalsis), increasing water content in the stool, and making bowel movements easier. It is generally used for short-term relief of occasional constipation and sometimes prescribed to clear the bowel before diagnostic procedures like colonoscopy.
Uses:
Provides relief from occasional or chronic constipation
Helps soften hard stools for easier passage
Used in bowel cleansing before medical examinations or surgery
Beneficial in conditions where straining during stool should be avoided (e.g., piles, post-surgery recovery)
Side Effects:
Picolix Syrup is usually well tolerated when taken in the recommended dose, but possible side effects include:
Common: Abdominal cramps, mild stomach pain, diarrhea
Occasional: Nausea, bloating, flatulence
Rare: Prolonged diarrhea leading to dehydration or electrolyte imbalance, especially with overuse
Possible allergic reaction (skin rash, itching, swelling) in sensitive individuals
Precautions:
Use only for short durations unless prescribed by a doctor. Avoid in cases of intestinal obstruction, severe dehydration, or appendicitis. Drink plenty of fluids during treatment. Consult a doctor if constipation persists beyond a few days or is accompanied by severe abdominal pain or bleeding.
