SANTIAMET 1000 Tablet is an oral anti-diabetic medicine that contains Metformin Hydrochloride (1000 mg) as its active ingredient. It belongs to the class of medications called biguanides and is primarily used to manage Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Uses

• Helps control high blood sugar levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes.

• Works by decreasing glucose production in the liver, reducing glucose absorption from the intestines, and improving insulin sensitivity.

• Helps in lowering the risk of diabetes-related complications such as kidney damage, heart disease, and nerve problems.

• May be used alone or in combination with other anti-diabetic medicines or insulin.

• Sometimes prescribed in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to improve insulin resistance and regulate menstrual cycles.

Side Effects

Most side effects are mild and temporary but may include:

• Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, metallic taste in the mouth, loss of appetite.

• Occasional: Weakness, dizziness, mild headache.

• Rare but serious: Lactic acidosis (a medical emergency causing severe weakness, breathing trouble, confusion, and stomach discomfort).

Precautions
