BETAMETHASONE AND CLIOQUINOL

Description

Uses of Valerate-C Ointment

Valerate-C Ointment is a combination medicine that usually contains Betamethasone Valerate (a corticosteroid) and Clioquinol (an antibacterial and antifungal agent). It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and allergic skin reactions. The corticosteroid component helps reduce redness, swelling, itching, and irritation, while the antibacterial and antifungal action of clioquinol prevents or treats secondary infections caused by bacteria or fungi. This makes the ointment particularly effective in mixed infections where both inflammation and infection are present. It is generally applied as a thin layer on the affected area as directed by a doctor.

Side Effects of Valerate-C Ointment

Like all topical corticosteroid combinations, Valerate-C Ointment may cause local side effects, especially when used for a long duration or over sensitive skin. Common side effects include skin irritation, burning, itching, dryness, or redness at the site of application. Prolonged or excessive use may lead to skin thinning, stretch marks, acne-like eruptions, or changes in skin color. In rare cases, absorption of steroid through the skin can lead to systemic effects such as hormonal imbalance or delayed wound healing. Patients with hypersensitivity to any ingredient may develop allergic reactions like rash or swelling. It should not be applied on open wounds, face, or near the eyes unless specifically advised by a physician.
