Description
Amoxyclav DS Syrup is a combination antibiotic medicine that contains amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. It is commonly prescribed to children for treating a variety of bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, ear infections (otitis media), sinusitis, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and dental infections. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills bacteria, while clavulanic acid prevents bacteria from becoming resistant to amoxicillin. This combination makes the medicine more effective against resistant strains of bacteria.
The syrup is usually given after food to minimize stomach upset. The dosage depends on the childβs age, weight, and the type of infection. It’s important to complete the full course as prescribed, even if symptoms improve early, to avoid reinfection or antibiotic resistance.
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and skin rash. Some children may develop mild allergic reactions like itching or redness. In rare cases, serious allergic reactions (such as swelling of the face, difficulty breathing) may occur. Long-term use or overdose may lead to fungal infections or liver issues. If side effects persist or worsen, medical advice should be sought promptly. Always use this medicine under the supervision of a pediatrician.
