AZITHROMYCIN 250 MG

Description

🩺 What Is Azijet 250 Tablet?

Azijet 250 contains Azithromycin 250 mg, a macrolide-class antibiotic marketed by Austro Labs Ltd (NetForHealth). It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis to stop bacterial growth.

✅ Uses

Azijet is prescribed to treat various bacterial infections, including:

  • Respiratory tract infections: pneumonia, bronchitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis
  • Ear infections (otitis media)
  • Skin and soft‑tissue infections (acne, cellulitis, etc.)
  • Some sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea
  • Gastrointestinal infections like typhoid or traveler’s diarrhea (Dawaa Dost, Farmako)

Note: It is ineffective against viruses, such as those responsible for colds or flu (Dawaa Dost).

⏱️ How It Works & Dosing

  • Azithromycin works by blocking bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting bacteria growth (Dawaa Dost).
  • Usually taken once daily, with or without food. Recommended timing is 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals for best absorption (Farmako).
  • Complete the full course even if feeling better—it prevents relapse or antibiotic resistance (Dawaa Dost).

⚠️ Common & Serious Side Effects

Common (often mild):

  • Nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting
  • Diarrhea (may be due to disruption of gut flora)
  • Headache, dizziness
  • Indigestion, fatigue (Dawaa Dost, Farmako)

Rare but serious:

  • Allergic reactions: rash, itching, facial/throat swelling, breathing difficulty (Dawaa Dost)
  • Heart rhythm disturbances: QT prolongation, arrhythmias—use cautiously with other QT‑prolonging drugs or electrolyte imbalances (Medwiki, Medwiki)
  • Liver toxicity: raised liver enzymes; avoid if hepatic dysfunction (1mg, Dawaa Dost, Medwiki)
  • Photosensitivity: increased risk of sunburn—use sunscreen or cover up (Farmako)
  • Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) in some patients (Medwiki)
  • Rare reports of hearing difficulties or tendonitis (PlatinumRx)

🚨 Precautions & Who Should Be Cautious

  • Liver or kidney impairment: monitor functions, dose adjust if needed (Dawaa Dost)
  • Heart conditions or arrhythmias: avoid if QT-risk factors present (Medwiki, Medwiki)
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding: consult prescriber; limited human data (some resources regard it safe under supervision) (PlatinumRx)
  • Allergy to macrolides: must not be used
  • Avoid antacids containing magnesium or aluminum within 2 hours before/after to prevent absorption interference (Medwiki, getomeds.com)
  • Sun exposure: increased sensitivity; use protection (apollopharmacy.in, Dawaa Dost)
