Description
Galpride M2 Tablet is an oral anti-diabetic medicine that combines Glimepiride (2 mg) and Metformin. It is prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients whose blood sugar levels cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone. The two medicines work synergistically:
Glimepiride (a sulfonylurea) stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, which helps lower blood sugar.
Metformin (a biguanide) reduces glucose production in the liver, delays glucose absorption in the intestine, and increases the bodyβs sensitivity to insulin.
Uses:
Helps control high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
Prevents long-term complications of diabetes such as kidney damage, nerve problems, blindness, and heart disease
Supports better glycemic control when lifestyle changes alone are insufficient
Often used as part of combination therapy with diet and exercise for effective diabetes management
Side Effects:
While effective, Galpride M2 may cause:
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, stomach upset, headache, dizziness, or weakness
Occasional: Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with symptoms like sweating, hunger, trembling, or confusion
Rare but serious: Lactic acidosis (linked to metformin), severe allergic reactions, liver dysfunction, or blood disorders
Precautions:
Take with meals to minimize stomach upset and hypoglycemia. Regular monitoring of blood sugar, liver, and kidney function is advised. Avoid alcohol and use only under medical supervision.
