Description
GLIMP-M1 Tablet is an oral antidiabetic medicine used to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a combination of Glimepiride (1 mg) and Metformin (500 mg). Glimepiride is a sulfonylurea that stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, while Metformin is a biguanide that reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. Together, they help in better glycemic control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
Uses:
Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
Helps reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications like kidney damage, heart disease, and nerve damage
Often prescribed when single-drug therapy fails to control blood sugar
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness
Occasional: Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) with symptoms like sweating, shakiness, and confusion
Rare but serious: Lactic acidosis (very rare, but life-threatening), allergic reactions, severe skin rash, or liver problems
It should be taken with food to reduce stomach upset and risk of low blood sugar. Regular monitoring of blood sugar is essential, and dosage should be strictly as prescribed by the doctor. Not suitable for type 1 diabetes or patients with severe kidney/liver problems.
