Description
MEGAMENTIN Syrup by Intas is a combination antibiotic containing Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid. It is primarily used to treat bacterial infections in children. Amoxicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills bacteria, while Clavulanic Acid prevents bacterial resistance by blocking beta-lactamase enzymes.
Uses:
Respiratory tract infections (such as sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)
Ear infections (otitis media)
Throat infections (like tonsillitis, pharyngitis)
Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Skin and soft tissue infections
Dental infections
It is commonly prescribed in pediatric patients for treating infections that do not respond to plain amoxicillin.
Side Effects:
Most children tolerate Megamentin well, but some may experience:
Diarrhea
Nausea or vomiting
Stomach pain
Rash or skin irritation
Loss of appetite
Allergic reactions (swelling, itching, breathing difficulties β rare but serious)
Yeast infections due to disturbance in normal flora
Long-term or unnecessary use may lead to antibiotic resistance. It should be used exactly as prescribed and for the full course, even if symptoms improve early. If severe diarrhea or allergic symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately. Always shake the syrup well before use and store it as directed.
